Our Roots

“Excellence is never an accident. It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, and it determines your destiny.” – Aristotle

Excellence is never an accident. Performance Kitchen’s & Home founder, Brian Forman, knew this when he began in the business in 1974 but his journey in becoming the one of the premier kitchen designers in Philadelphia started with artisanal roots.

The Performance Kitchen Showroom Through The Decades

As the saying goes, excellence is never an accident. Performance Kitchen's founder Brian Forman knew this when he began in the business in 1974 but his journey in becoming the one of the premier kitchen designers in Philadelphia started with artisanal roots.

1970 – Humble beginnings

Brian bought the rundown building on Main Street, Manayunk where our showroom is located today. He became a tenant to the homeless as they would keep watch over the building while Brian was making cabinetry in a barn at home. He began extensive renovations so he could eventually have a place to display his craftsmanship.

1980 – First Showroom of Its Type

Brian had rebuilt the building from top to bottom and combined a construction company with its own cabinet shop and design staff to form the first showroom of its type in Philadelphia. Manayunk’s revitalization had begun.

1990 – Specialized Kitchen Design

As the company began to transform, so did the trends. The kitchen was becoming the center of the home. Performance Kitchens & Home continued to hone their craft in the fine art of kitchen design as well as orchestrating all the moving parts of the remodeling process.

2000 – Changing with the Times

As the way of life continued to change, the call for difficult remodeling projects came in. Performance was transforming the older homes of Philadelphia into open floor plans without losing the purpose and function of the kitchen and its adjoining rooms. All rooms of the home needed upgrading, from kitchens to master bathrooms, to mud rooms and laundry rooms.

2020 – The Renaissance

It was time for the Performance Kitchens & Home showroom to be upgraded. We often refer to it as The Renaissance. We continue to grow and tackle the most difficult remodels. We specialize in managing the design process, creating highly functional and creative spaces.

Always changing, always improving.
